THE COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION AND ENGAGEMENTS ACTIVITIES 

SMACI uses Community Mobilization as its main intervention strategy. Through Community Mobilization, SMACI penetrates in to the communities, wards, districts and Local Governments and always found the missing links on why communities shun away from certain Health Programmed. This strategy has made tremendous impacts in cementing the bond of relationship between government, communities and other international donor agencies, in Demand Creation, Increase Access and utilization of health services targeted to men, women, youth and children.

SMACI through its excellent point approaches:-

  • Promote Child Health Services rendered to children to promote their health.
  • Help in Health education on immunization, Antenatal Care & Family Planning activities.
  • Help in educating the communities on nutrition and hand washing (using soap/ash) of children during/after visiting toilets by mothers (demonstration).

Through Social mobilization SMACI accomplished the following result in :

  • In Sept. 2009 SMACI In collaboration with UNICEF & WHO organized a workshop to sensitized 72 District Head in 5 LGAs of Zamfara state (Bungudu, Gusau, Kauran Namoda, Maradun and Tsafe LGA). To promoted activities that facilitated behavior changes to the participant, (traditional leaders) on crucial issues such as IPDs, Routine immunization and exclusive breastfeeding. Aimed at targeting key recurrent child and maternal issues such as persistent high infant and under five mortality rates, resulting principally from burden of vaccine preventable diseases which can be eradicated through effective PEI activities
  • In July 2012 SMACI in partnership with WHO resolved 267case of Non-compliance on Oral Polio Vaccine in a non-compliance area of 7 LGAs of Zamfara state (Bungudu, Gumi, Gusau, Kauran Namoda, Maradun, Talata Mafara and Tsafe LGA). Through Community dialogue and sensitization to improve the culture of taking children to health centers for routine immunization and also ensure that women attend ANC regularly, thereby reducing infant mortality rates in the state at the same times reduce pregnancy complication related cases. The twenty days community dialogue served as a medium for achieving the goal of 2015 country programmed of cooperation and also contributed to the progressive realization of children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation with emphasis on reducing regional and gender disparities and eliminating exclusion of vulnerable and disadvantaged children. In addition the community dialogue also promoted activities that facilitated behavior changes in our communities on crucial issues such immunization, ANC and breast feeding. The dialogue increased immunization coverage to 65% in the affected communities.
  • In February 2013 SMACI in collaboration with PRINN MNCH increase access and services utilization of MNCH Services in 15 PHCs of 5 LGAs  through demand creation activities (Rapid Awareness Raising Campaign RAR) RAR Campaign is conducted in 4 location 1 Km Radios around the 15 PHCs to create Demand for the following Service ANC, Facility Delivery Postnatal Care and Routine immunization which increase ANC with 17% Facility delivery with 3% Post natal care with 7% and Routine Immunizations with 14% in the targeted Facilities
