Save Mothers and Children Initiative SMACI is an Indigenous professional, not-for-profit, non-political, non- governmental organisation (NGO) formed in April, 2006 and register in November 2008, aimed at. Having equitable and sustainable society where Women and Children have access to Basic health, social, economic and democratic rights and the capacity to achieve their full potential and lead a dignified life.
SMACI prioritised the women and Children’s program as they are the vulnerable and marginalised populations that have been hit hardest by any form of crises and emergency situation. Women and Children Suffer not only mentally but also from Poor health, poor education, to poor nutrition, violence and brutalisation
SMACI is committed to provide technical, logistic and programmatic support using the existing Local and Innovative Solutions, to salvage the people of Northern Nigeria from the Poor health poor education, poor nutrition, violence and brutalisation.
To this end we make a significant progress in Improved sexual reproductive health and right of 24,980 adolescent girls and boys, Increased their skills and knowledge on ASRHR, gender equality, positive gender norms and life skills for Very Young Adolescents (VYA) and Older Adolescent in Zamfara state. Provide Psycho-social, physiological, clinical and legal support to 187 children affected by Gender base violence in 9 LGAs of Zamfara state
SMACI has received Grant and contributions of approximately US$ 12.6 million, through its partners Save the Children International, Chemonics International, NACA World bank, WHO, UNICEF and Zamfara state SACA. From the organisations key donors Global Affairs Canada and USAID
SMACI also, on HAF 2 HIV/AIDs project reached 300 MARPs, most at risk population (female sex workers 100, long distance driver 200) and reach 12,950 PMTCT, under three components of MPPI, Structural, Behavioral and Biomedical interventions
SMACI Reduce poverty Promotes entrepreneurial culture of 3000 women through initiatives that build business confidence, positive attitude, pride in success, support and encouragement of new ideas and social responsibility, as Nigeria is experiencing deepening inequality and is struggling to lower maternal mortality rates, reduce gender inequality and improve environmental sustainability
SMACI has a balanced approach with stimulation of policy makers’ legislative religious and traditional leaders in relation to social change for women and Children. With focus on: basic health access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, , hygiene and education to improve service delivery and living conditions of communities
