The target of the project is to reach 100,000 married and unmarried boys’ and girls’ adolescents 10-19 years in 6 LGAs across Gombe, Katsina and Zamfara State.
Next was Challenging Gender Norms and Share the Care by Gender 2 and adolescents, the activity started by reflecting on the gender roles that are traditionally ascribed to boys and girls and how can boys and girls start thinking about the actions they need to take in other to change the negative perceptions surrounding gender roles in the community because it is this gender norms that draw line or affect a woman in achieving her hopes and dreams particularly in the north. How do we show care to our love ones i.e. mothers and sisters;
The adolescents made a testimony of what they think about house hold activities before they joined/started the choices and what they learned after they have started/graduated in terms of sharing household chore between boys and girls. Also about hopes and dreams: whose hope and dreams achieved easily between boys and girls, Why?
The adolescent did a role play on sharing household activities between boys and girls were the first scene shows there is no support and respect between the children each work on his own were the boys have more time to enjoy themselves unlike the girls who spent most of their time in household chores and even go to school late. And the second scene shows support, respect and encouragement between the boys and girls, do things together and both have time to rest.
Next was Empowering each other on Islamic perspectives by TWG member Sani Malam, He explained the importance of supporting each other in the family between husband and wife, brothers and sisters and the community at large. He also said that it is very good to empower women/support women in achieving their hopes and dreams, allow them to attend and finish school because the prophet said seeking education is obligatory to all in respective of gender and also another quote that says ‘when you educate a woman you have educate the whole world’ because women are the ones raising and taking care of children in the family so give them chance and opportunities to contribute their own quota.
Next was Celebrating diversity by CEO, He started by saying value/respect each other in respective of gender because that is how God created us, being a man or woman doesn’t matter each has a role to play, we have to reinforce gender stereotypes and allow girls to realized their full potentials always remind them that they are strong, capable and deserving of the same respect as boys, encourage them to speak out, praise them for their intelligence, strength, leadership and much more.
Next was Mobilize and take action by Project team lead, How do we make women feel among? Let’s work hand in hand in other to support them in achieving their aims because without them we are incomplete, give them opportunities to explore their potentials i.e. looking at REACH Project it helps girls to speak out and make informed choices about their health and take decision on their own. Also so many adolescents girl are now enrolled into school because of choices because they understand that they have hopes and dreams which they want to achieve in the future.
